When participants complete training, everyone will be guaranteed a job as a medical assistant, said Bonita Robertson, N.O.W.’s interim site director. The organization is housed at the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
Medical assistants perform duties such as clerical work, processing transfer and discharge orders, and answering questions from patients and visitors.
Collaborating on this project will be Ochsner Health System; Delgado Community College; JOB1, which is New Orleans’ Office of Workforce Development; and Providence Community Housing, which works to provide affordable housing and job opportunities.
JOB1 and Providence Community Housing will be recruiting people for the program, Robertson said, and Delgado and Ochsner personnel will provide training.
